Umac-Core Marine Phytoplankton
Marine phytoplankton are the most abundant life form in the ocean. Scientists at NASA theorize that billions of years ago, these microscopic, single celled plants marked the beginning of life on earth. Most important, these micro algae are responsible for approximately 50% of the carbon consumption and up to 90% of the oxygen production in the Earth's atmosphere. Also, phytoplankton, forms the base of the ocean’s food chain and are the food utilized by the world’s largest living animals and fish. Blue Whales, Bowhead Whales, Baleen Whales, Fin Whales, Grey Whales, Humpbacks and Right Whales all eat plankton. These species live between 80 and 150 years old and maintain great strength and endurance throughout their lives. The largest fish, a plankton eating whale shark, lives for over 150 years, grows up to 14 meters long, weighs up to 15 tons and is sexually active until the day it dies. The Geoduck clams live over a 150 years on a diet consisting exclusively of micro-algae. Although,until recently, only whales and some other selected fish species had the ability to extract these microscopic-algae in significant quantities to use as a viable food source, the developers of our Umac-Core phytoplankton, Unique Sea Farms of Canada’s West Coast, is the first company to be able to harvest it for human consumption.
